Re-evaluation of historical total ozone and upper air data
Current data archives of upper level data reach back to around 1948. However, earlier data, reaching back to the 1920s, can still be found today on paper in various meteorological archives. The goal of this project is to re-evaluate some of these historical upper air data (from balloon or aircraft ascents) for scientific research. In addition, several historical total ozone series are re-evaluated. The data will be used to study the upper level circulation during the early 1940s. (see Project Total ozone and climate variability over Europe).
